TRM-103S RHEOLOGY MODIFIER

TRM-103S is a nonionic hydrophobically modified ethylene oxide urethane (HEUR) rheology modifier designed for waterborne architectural and functional coatings. TRM-103S is compatible with acrylic, styrene-acrylic and vinyl-acrylic latexes, and can be used in interior and exterior paints, and provides alkyd-like flow and leveling, film formation, water resistance, excellent spatter resistance, high gloss development and high mid-shear   range (KU viscosity)   thickening efficiency. TRM-103S is a product of APEO and OrganoTin free.

Applications

TRM-103S can be used in a variety of latex paint formulations, and is compatible with other rheology modifiers. When used in low-PVC latex paints made with small particle size hydrophobic acrylic and styrene/acrylic binders, TRM-103S is particularly suited in combination with a high shear ICI viscosity builder such as TRM-003 and TRM-004 to increase high-shear viscosity in flat through gloss formulations. TRM-103S can be a sole thickener when used in latex paints based on large particle size vinyl-acrylic binders.   

Dosage and Incorporation

Typical use levels can vary from 0.3 to 2% of paint, depending on the system being thickened and the rheological performance desired. TRM-103S is typically added to the letdown. However, in cases where there is limited agitation at this stage, TRM-103S can be added to the letdown before the latex. When TRM-003 or TRM004 and TRM-103S are used together in small particle latex paints, TRM-003/004 should be added first. In large particle size vinyl-acrylic latex paints, TRM-103S should be added to the letdown before the latex during the paint manufacturing process.
