TRM-360 Rheology Modifier  

TRM-360 is a synthetic Hydrophobically modified Alkali-Swellable anionic associative Emulsion thickener (HASE) designed for waterborne architectural and functional coatings. TRM-360 offers a base-activated high efficiency for low shear (Brookfield) and mid-shear (KU) viscosity, and is particularly recommended for interior high PVC flat through sheen paint formulations. TRM-360 provides application and feel properties very similar to high grades of cellulosic. Its outstanding roller spatter resistance, high water phase thickening efficiency and high pseudo-plastic viscosity profiles make it an ideal replacement of HEC type of products. TRM-360 is an off-white, milky emulsion with a 30% solids and a low viscosity for easy pour and pump, and is easy to incorporate into the paint and is highly resistant to attack by microbes and their enzymes.

Applications

TRM-360 can be used in a variety of latex paint formulations, and is particularly well suited to vinyl-acrylic, flat and low-sheen interior formulations, including those above CPVC low volume solids paints. TRM-360 can also be used with other thickeners such as TRM-203 and TRM-207 to improve the properties of flow and leveling.  

Dosage and Incorporation

Typical use levels can vary from 0.3 to 1% of paint, depending on the system being thickened and the rheological performance desired. TRM-360 can be added directly to the paint, at different stages of formulation, without pre-dilution as long as sufficient base is added to the paint prior to the addition of TRM-360 and sufficient agitation is available. However, in cases where there is limited agitation, pre-dilution of TRM-360 with water is recommended prior to its addition. Like other high molecular weight polymeric thickeners, although most of the thickening efficiency becomes realized in minutes, an equilibrated viscosity of paint or the full realization of the thickening efficiency is expected to be achieved in 24 hrs.

Subject to appropriate storage under the usual storage and temperature conditions, this product is durable for 18 months. Freezing and thawing could destabilize the product and cause detrimental changes such as coagulation.
